LEBANON, Ind. (AP) - Northbound lanes of Interstate 65 were closed for hours northwest of Indianapolis after three semi-trailers jackknifed along the snow-covered highway.

Cpl. Robert Hatfield of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department says I-65’s northbound lanes were closed about 10:40 a.m. Saturday just north of the U.S. 52 exit in Boone County because the crippled semis had blocked the highway.

Those lanes reopened a few hours later once crews removed the trucks from the highway.

Hatfield says the semis jackknifed because their drivers were driving too fast along the snow-covered highway during a period when high winds were creating whiteout conditions.
