APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. (AP) - An injured hiker has been airlifted to safety after spending the night with rescuers on a mountain in Apache Junction.
The Arizona Republic reports (https://bit.ly/1enjPFF ) the 65-year-old woman was taken by helicopter around 8 a.m. Saturday from Lost Dutchman State Park.
Dave Montgomery, a spokesman for the Apache Junction Fire Department, says the woman fell from an unknown height and dislocated her shoulder while hiking near the Flatiron region of the Superstition Wilderness Area.
Montgomery says other hikers reported the fall to 911.
He says fire crews decided it would be better to wait overnight before completing a helicopter transport.
Authorities say the hiker was kept warm and comfortable during the night.
