AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine lawmakers are asking officials from the state’s Centers for Disease Control to testify before the committee about mishandling and possible destruction of public documents.
Sharon Leahy-Lind, a former Maine CDC employee, says she was ordered to shred documents on the scoring and selection process for health program funds that were sought in an open-records request. She’s sued the state and a top official at CDC.
An attorney for Leahy-Lind told the Sun Journal (https://bit.ly/1bn8FQa ) on Friday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is now examining the case because federal funds are involved.
The Legislature’s Government, Oversight Committee decided against launching a formal investigation and using subpoena power to force agency officials to appear before the panel.
