HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Longtime Lamar County School Superintendent Ben Burnett says he’s leaving the district at the end of the school year.

WDAM-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1fbzpb8 ) Burnett announced his retirement Thursday after 26 years with the Lamar County School District where he also served as a principal and band director.

Burnett will finish the school year and then assume his new position as Dean of the College of Education at William Carey University. His new post beings June 1.
