BURBANK, Calif. (AP) - A Southern California man has been charged with murder in the death of his 76-year-old mother, whose body was left in an alley.

The Daily News of Los Angeles says (https://bit.ly/1hOpXe3) 40-year-old Moises Diaz of Burbank was charged on Wednesday. He remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail.

Diaz was arrested Monday after Burbank police found the woman’s body, wrapped in some sort of material and dumped in a trash bin.

The newspaper says a preliminary autopsy report indicates the victim died from “asphyxia by neck compressions,” which could mean she was strangled.

Authorities say Diaz lived with his mother in an apartment near the alley.

The killing was Burbank’s first since 2012.
