PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island State Police say they have responded to more than 40 car crashes amid a winter storm that dumped several inches of snow and has brought frigid temperatures.

But Lt. Col. Michael Winquist says the roads are much improved since Wednesday morning, although there are still some slick spots because of the bitter cold.

At T.F. Green Airport in Warwick, nearly all arriving and departing flights on Wednesday are on schedule. Almost two dozen were canceled Wednesday morning.

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority says three bus routes are being detoured until further notice because of the storm, including two in Providence and another in Newport.

Amtrak said it was running fewer trains in the Northeast Corridor.
