FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A North Texas teenager has been sentenced to 26 years in prison for killing another teen with a hammer then stealing his car and other items.
Tarrant County prosecutors say a plea agreement was reached Wednesday just before the trial for the 17-year-old Fort Worth boy was scheduled to begin in juvenile court. He was sentenced after admitting to a count of capital murder and a separate charge of tampering with evidence. Prosecutors are not identifying the teen because he’s a juvenile.
He bludgeoned 17-year-old Nicholas Anderson in May at a Fort Worth park. In addition to his car, Anderson’s watch, phone and wallet were taken.
His killer then drove to a friend’s house and recruited him to help dispose of Anderson’s body in a wooded area of the park.
