GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Greeneville Sun columnist Bob Hurley, who spent more than four decades at the newspaper and became a fixture in the community that he chronicled for so long, has died. Hurley was 69.
The Greeneville Sun (https://bit.ly/LQ9I5J ) reported that Hurley’s death Monday came less than two weeks after he was diagnosed with advanced esophageal cancer.
Hurley began his career at the paper in 1967 as a linotypist and worked his way up to city editor. But it became clear that Hurley’s greatest talent lay in writing human interest stories about Greene County and its people. His slice-of-life columns and stories of rural life in Greene County were among the most popular features at the paper.
Hurley is survived by his wife of 47 years, a son, a brother and a sister.
