JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - State Sen. Fred Dyson is recovering after having his thymus removed.

Dyson aide Chuck Kopp says Dyson has been discharged from the hospital and that doctors say Dyson is looking good.

Kopp says Dyson, a Republican from Eagle River, is expected at the Capitol in a few days.

According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, the thymus is a small organ in the upper chest that helps the body make a type of white blood cells that helps guard against infections.

The new legislative session started Tuesday.
