HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - State police say heavy snow in western Connecticut has caused many traffic accidents as up to 10 inches of snow has fallen across the state.

The National Weather Service says 10 inches of snow fell in the town of Norfolk in Litchfield County Saturday and warned that hazardous travel conditions are expected in Litchfield County as snow continues across portions of northwest Connecticut.

It warned of the potential of icing and urged drivers and pedestrians to travel with extreme care.

It also warned of slippery spots from patchy black ice in the southwest part of the state.
