HONOLULU (AP) - The National Weather Service has issued a high surf warning for the north- and west-facing shores of some Hawaiian islands.

The Honolulu Star Advertiser (https://bit.ly/1aA8moi ) reported Saturday that the warning was prompted by a large northwest swell that’s expected to generate surf up to 30 to 40 feet.

The warning is in effect through 6 p.m. Sunday and covers the north- and west-facing shores of Oahu, Kauai, Molokai and Niihau and the north shore of Maui. A high surf advisory remains in effect for the Big Island’s west-facing shores.

Weather officials expect to see the highest surf late Saturday and Sunday. They’re advising beachgoers to exercise caution and listen to lifeguards.
