HONOLULU (AP) - The Hawaii Department of Public Safety is looking for people who want to become sheriff deputies.

Recruitment begins Saturday and will last until Feb. 7.

The department’s priority is to fill a need for deputies on the Big Island.



But officials say the Sheriff Division is recruiting statewide.

Applicants must be able to display mental and physical fitness and participate in a five-month recruit class.

Duties of the statewide law enforcement division including protecting the governor and Honolulu International Airport.
