ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York’s senators say $33.7 million for the national stream gauge network is included in the appropriations before Congress this week.

Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand say the $6 million increase in funding will help strengthen stream gauges in upstate New York that provide flood warnings during extreme weather.

The senators say the money will help the U.S. Geological Survey keep existing gauges online and allow the USGS to add more gauges in high-risk flood zones in upstate New York.
