CHICAGO (AP) - The chairman of the Regional Transportation Agency wants a review after Chicago-area riders experienced rail delays and cancellations during last week’s severe cold and snow.
RTA Chairman John Gates said Wednesday that he wants the review to determine if penalties are needed against Union Pacific and BNSF railways.
Gates praised Metra and Chicago Transit Authority workers for their efforts during the severe weather. But Gates says service delays exceeded those on comparable transit systems that experienced similar weather conditions. Gates also says Metra had “very poor” communication with riders.
Metra officials have apologized and blamed issues on snowy and icy switches.
