SYDNEY (AP) - Shinji Ono will leave Western Sydney Wanderers at the end of the current season after two years in Australian football’s A-League, and return to play in Japan.
The Wanderers on Thursday confirmed the 34-year-old Ono will depart after the A-League finals and the round-of-16 in the Asian Cup to join Japanese second division club Consadole Sapporo in June.
Ono was the Wanderers’ marquee signing in their first A-League season in 2012 when they reached the league’s grand final.
Ono has scored nine goals in 39 A-League appearances.
