LIZANA, Miss. (AP) - A neighbor pulled an ailing woman from a fire that broke out Tuesday night in the kitchen of her trailer.

Authorities told The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/1iXb7lW) they were called to the trailer on U.S. Highway 49 about 7:30 p.m.

Harrison County Fire Marshal Pat Sullivan said the unidentified neighbor heard the woman’s screams and entered the trailer.

A fire in a pot on the stove had spread to the trailer wall. The neighbor put out the wall fire, Sullivan said.

“It could have been a whole different story because the lady could not get out on her own,” Sullivan said.

Sullivan said a person who had been taking care of the woman had gone next door to care for someone else when the fire started.

He said the occupant suffered smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene by an emergency medical team. She refused to be hospitalized, Sullivan said.

The fire was contained to the kitchen.
