KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) - Farmers on the Klamath irrigation project are facing half rations for water in the coming growing season.
The Herald and News (https://bit.ly/1hY5N3Y ) reports the director of the Klamath Water Users Association outlined the situation Tuesday in a talk in Klamath Falls.
Greg Addington says forecasts based on snowpack and other factors call for 50 percent of normal inflows into Upper Klamath Lake, the Klamath Reclamation Project’s principal reservoir.
He adds that computer models offer a 50 percent chance things will be better, and a 50 percent chance they will be worse.
Oregon and California have had record-low rainfall the past year, and last summer irrigation was shut off to ranchers in the Upper Klamath Basin when the Klamath Tribes imposed their newly recognized water rights to protect fish.
