Disgraced former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer and his wife of 26 years quietly filed for a contested divorce on Tuesday, the New York Daily News reported.
The filing between Mr. Spitzer and Silda Wall comes almost six years after the Democrat was caught in a prostitution ring scandal and he resigned from office.
The couple issued a joint statement last month announcing that their marriage was over.
It’s unclear why the divorce is contested, but the Daily News points out that Mr. Spitzer runs a multi-million dollar real estate business. Their three daughters are adults so custody will not be contested.
