BEND, Ore. (AP) - Deschutes County District Attorney Patrick Flaherty has determined a Bend police officer was justified in shooting an unarmed man.
KTVZ-TV reports that (https://bit.ly/19vmOPT) 31-year-old Tyler Keinonen (KEN’-uh-nen) was shot when officers investigated a report of suspicious activity at a house raided earlier on Nov. 22 in a drug and stolen trailer investigation.
Officer Erick Supplee (SUPP’-lee) was behind the house in the dark with a police dog to guard against people running out.
Supplee told investigators he saw a man sneaking around the house with a smartphone in one hand and a “bulge” in the other, and thought the man was pointing a gun at him.
Flaherty said the officer “reasonably believed” his life was in danger and the shooting was justified.
