OURAY, Colo. (AP) - U.S. 550 over Red Mountain Pass will remain closed at least through the weekend because of persistent falling rocks.

The Colorado Department of Transportation said Tuesday no reopening date has been set.

The highway is closed in both directions south of Ouray (yoo-RAY’).

It’s been shut down since Monday.

CDOT says rocks began tumbling onto the road Sunday evening, and by Monday the rock fall was described as continuous.

Rocks up to 6 inches in diameter covered about 200 feet of highway, and a pile 8 feet deep formed at one spot. Rocks also severed a power line.
