PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Police in Portland say they’ve arrested a 33-year-old woman in two recent cases of purses snatched from older women. In one case, an 89-year-old woman was thrown to the ground. In the other, the victim was 90 years old.
Sgt. Pete Simpson said police had identified the woman as their purse-snatching suspect and arrested her Tuesday on an unrelated warrant out of nearby Clackamas County.
The 89-year-old woman was robbed Jan. 7 as she returned to her home from the grocery store. She suffered severe facial bruises. During that investigation, the spokesman says detectives learned of a December case in which a woman knocked on a door, pushed past the 90-year-old woman who answered, stole the older woman’s purse off a table and ran away. That victim waited until the next day to call police. She was not hurt.
Simpson says Tiffany Denise Smith is being booked into jail for investigation of robbery, assault, burglary and identity theft.
