ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Defending champion Allen Moore has won his fifth Copper Basin 300 sled dog race.

The Two Rivers musher was first to cross the finish line at the Glennallen, clocking in at 2:05 p.m. Monday with 10 dogs. He was followed seven minutes later by Nicolas Petit of Girdwood and an eight-dog team.

The Anchorage Daily News (https://is.gd/Z5Aib7) says Moore won last year, as well as in 2008, 2007 and 2005.

Moore took the lead from Petit early Monday morning at the Tolsana checkpoint.

The 300-mile race began Saturday. The Copper Basin 300 is a qualifying race for the 1,000-mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
