SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - Orange County’s district attorney says that after two Fullerton police officers were acquitted of killing a homeless man, his office will drop charges against a third officer involved in the struggle that led to the death of Kelly Thomas.
District Attorney Tony Rackauckas (ruh-KOW-kuhs) said Monday that former Fullerton officer Joseph Wolfe would no longer face charges of involuntary manslaughter and excessive force.
Former Cpl. Jay Cicinelli (chih-chih-NELL’-ee) was acquitted of those same two charges on Monday. Former Officer Manuel Ramos was acquitted of second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter.
Wolfe had been awaiting his own separate trial while three other officers involved in the July 2011 confrontation with Thomas were not charged.
