SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - A prosecutor says charges will be dropped against a third officer involved in a struggle that led to the death of a homeless man during an arrest in California.
The decision came Monday after two Fullerton police officers were acquitted of killing Kelly Thomas.
Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas (ruh-KOW-kuhs) said former Fullerton officer Joseph Wolfe would no longer face charges of involuntary manslaughter and excessive force.
Former Cpl. Jay Cicinelli (chih-chih-NELL’-ee) was acquitted of those same two counts. Former Officer Manuel Ramos was acquitted of second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter.
Wolfe had been awaiting a separate trial. Three other officers involved in the July 2011 confrontation with Thomas were not charged.
