PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A Pierre woman has pleaded guilty in federal court to making false statements to a federal agency.
Prosecutors say Kelsey Howe lied about knowing the whereabouts of Jason Garreau who was involved in a shootout near Fort Thompson in October with law enforcement. One person was killed.
KCCR-AM reports Kelsey Howe entered the guilty plea last week. Howe had earlier been indicted on the charge and had initially pleaded innocent, requesting a jury trial. She later agreed to a plea bargain in the case.
Howe faces up to six months in prison. A sentencing date has not been set.
