Chicago man convicted of killing 13-year-old boy

CHICAGO (AP) - A Chicago man has been convicted of shooting a 13-year-old boy to death at a South Side convenience store in 2008.

Cook County prosecutors say jurors convicted 20-year-old Sebastian Rodriguez of first-degree murder late Friday. They say the victim, Sameere Conn, was buying snacks with friends after football practice at the time of the shooting.

Officials say Rodriguez fired a gun into the store’s glass door, shooting Conn in the abdomen and both hands. The boy died the next day at a hospital. A 27-year-old man also was shot but recovered.

Prosecutors say before the shooting Rodriguez had said he wanted to kill Conn and that the boy’s name was was on a “death list.”

Rodriguez is to be sentenced March 11.
