CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) - Trey Sumler scored 25 points and Western Carolina used a 12-0 run in overtime to defeat Appalachian State 84-75 on Saturday.

The Catamounts (13-11, 6-3 Southern Conference) were trailing 74-70 when Tawaski King fed Brandon Boggs for a dunk. Sumler tied it with two free throws and James Sinclair followed with a layup. King’s jumper with a minute left made it 78-74. Sinclair added two free throws and set up Sumler for a jumper.

The Mountaineers (7-16, 3-7) reached overtime when Tab Hamilton made two of three free throws with 1 second left in regulation.



Brandon Boggs added 15 points for Western Carolina with Sinclair adding 11, King and Tom Tankelwicz 10 each.

Tommy Spagnolo had a career high 23 points plus 12 rebounds for the Mountaineers. Ty Toney made 10 of 12 free throws to finish with 14 points and Hamilton added 13.
