MINOT, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota residents rebuilding from flooding in 2011 have received about $809,000 in state sales tax refunds, with more than half of the claims yet to be processed.
The Tax Department says the vast majority of refunds have gone to residents in Ward County, which has hit by record Souris River flooding three years ago. There also was flooding in the Bismarck area and the Red River Valley that year.
The Legislature last year approved refunds of up to $2,500 in sales taxes paid on eligible reconstruction expenses. The application deadline was Dec. 31.
The Minot Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/1b8DXjN) that the Tax Department has processed 456 claims and expects to complete the remaining 580 claims in about three months. Of the processed claims, 129 applicants received the maximum refund.
