ST. GEORGE, Maine (AP) - Prosecutors say the driver of a car that went out of control on a coastal Maine town’s wharf last summer, killing a 9-year-old Massachusetts boy and injuring three others, won’t face criminal charges.
Knox County District Attorney Geoffrey Rushlau said Thursday there isn’t enough evidence to warrant a prosecution.
Authorities say a car driven by 61-year-old Nancy Torgerson of New York City accelerated suddenly in the Port Clyde village of St. George on Aug. 11, striking several other cars as well as four people. Nine-year-old Dylan Gold of Cohasset, Mass., died on the way to the hospital. His mother and younger brother, as well as a 68-year-old local man, were hurt.
Rushlau says he has discussed his decision with the Gold family and the other survivor and he understands their disappointment.
