ST. LOUIS (AP) - The crew that caused an explosion at a St. Louis clothing design firm had no business license, nor a permit to do the job.
Fourteen people in the Stars Design Group business in the Soulard neighborhood were evacuated Wednesday after workers for Four Winds, a South Dakota company, hit a gas line. Workers evacuated before the blast and no injuries were reported. Fire gutted the three-story building.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1aCY88M ) reports that the crew was hired by an engineering subcontractor to install fiber optic cable for AT&T. Records show AT&T’s application for a work permit was still pending. City spokeswoman Maggie Crane says Four Winds lacked a city business license.
A Four Winds representative declined comment. AT&T says it requires contractors to follow laws and licensing requirements.
