JESSUP, Md. (AP) - Howard County police say a woman was killed when the car she was driving was hit from behind by a box truck and pushed into the car in front of her.
It happened about 6:40 a.m. Wednesday on Route 1 in Jessup. Police say a truck driven by 56-year-old William Russell III of Elkridge hit the rear of a Volkswagen that was stopped in the through traffic lane to make a left turn.
The impact pushed the Volkswagen into a Chrysler in front of it that was also stopped in traffic.
Police say the driver of the Volkswagen, 39-year-old Rafaella Griffin of Baltimore, was taken to Shock Trauma in Baltimore, where she died.
Officers say Russell and the driver of the Chrysler, 40-year-old Michael Thompson of Clinton, were not hurt.
