WESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A prosecutor says a suspect in a case involving the disappearance of two Lewis County women has agreed to a plea deal.
Fifty-eight-year-old David Hughes of Archbold, Ohio, is charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
Lewis County assistant prosecutor Brian Bailey tells The Exponent Telegram (https://bit.ly/1dswiai ) that Hughes has agreed to plead guilty to the conspiracy charge in exchange for cooperation against co-defendant Joseph Metz of Horner.
Bailey says prosecutors would recommend a suspended sentence of one to five years and five years’ probation.
Metz is charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The 39-year-old is accused of fatally shooting his mother, 46-year-old Mary Friend and grandmother, 69-year-old Maxine Stalnaker, both of Jane Lew.
The women disappeared in December 1999. Their bodies have never been found.
