RENO, Nev. (AP) - A key figure in a Reno street gang has been convicted as the gunman in a retaliatory shooting last summer on the city’s south side.
Deputy District Attorney Chris Wilson says 18-year-old Luis Eduardo Martinez was found guilty of three counts, including discharging a firearm out of a vehicle and at a structure.
He says Martinez was shooting at a rival gang member when he opened fire Aug. 22 at an apartment complex near Neil Road.
Martinez fled Nevada for a month before he was arrested at a Sparks motel.
Wilson told the Reno Gazette-Journal (https://tinyurl.com/kkx4v8p) Martinez was one of the founding members of an affiliate of the Sureno gang and his arrest will go a long way toward “crippling” the gang.
Judge Scott Freeman set sentencing for April 2.
