PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say at least $30,000 in cash and $30,000 in checks were believed to have been stolen from a safe during a break-in at Pontiac’s water department.
The Oakland County sheriff’s department says it responded Tuesday morning to the water department offices on a report of a burglary. Workers reported that they arrived to find a front window broken, several offices ransacked and a safe forced open.
The break-in is believed to have taken place late Monday or early Tuesday. The department says the checks and cash were being held overnight for a morning deposit.
The sheriff’s department says the building has no alarm or security cameras, and a security guard wasn’t on duty at the time.
