NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Officials at New Orleans’ City Park say vandals stole five sport utility vehicles last weekend and drove them into nearby lagoons.

Park spokesman John Hopper tells WVUE-TV (https://bit.ly/1fMfOOm ) that the vandalism happened sometime late Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Hopper says the vandals played “demolition derby” causing more than $50,000 in damage. The five stolen vehicles include three John Deere Gators and two brand-new Kubotas.

City Park is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact City Park Police Chief Billy Bayle at 504-421-9307.
