SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - Work to replace a bridge over Interstate 585 in Spartanburg has been moved up by five months after the bridge was heavily damaged.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation told the Herald-Journal of Spartanburg (https://bit.ly/1n8AvFx ) that they will begin taking bids for the new California Avenue bridge in April.

The bridge was dismantled after a lift on the back of a flatbed truck slammed into the structure on Jan. 13. The structure shifted several inches after the impact.

The bridge was on a list to be replaced with plans to take bids in September before the incident. The bridge had a clearance of 13 feet 10 inches, which was marked with several signs.
