MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - A winter storm has dumped 10 inches of snow in parts of West Virginia, caused minor flooding and prompted college campuses and public schools to call off classes.
High water cut off access to rural roads in Greenbrier, Pendleton and Raleigh counties, and Deckers Creek rose a foot above flood stage in Sabraton in Monongalia County.
The storm Monday closed public schools in 38 counties, Shepherd University in Shepherdstown and Jefferson County’s government offices. West Virginia University canceled classes at its Morgantown campus.
The National Weather Service says preliminary snowfall totals include 10 inches in Morgantown, 8 in Fairmont and 7 inches in Elizabeth and Parkersburg.
The weather service says rain could bring another flood threat in the state Tuesday night, along with freezing rain in the Eastern Panhandle.
