LAS VEGAS (AP) - Gov. Brian Sandoval and other dignitaries are hailing the opening of a new charter school in Las Vegas.
Doral Academy West was made possible by an investment fund backed in part by tennis star Andre Agassi.
A grand opening was held Monday.
The kindergarten through eighth grade charter school is located in a former University of Phoenix building. It will have a focus on arts and marks the first local investment of Canyon-Agassi Charter School Facilities Fund.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (https://bit.ly/LHHf1w ) that the fund has helped open other charter schools around the nation. It helps schools renovate or build facilities they then least to own.
Agassi is a strong supporter of charter schools. In 2001 he opened he built the Andrew Agassi College Preparatory Academy in Las Vegas.
