LAURINBURG, N.C. (AP) - The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office.
The Fayetteville Observer reports that (https://bit.ly/1gGYQzZ ) Sheriff Shep Jones said the SBI notified him Monday about its investigation.
Jones said the agency would not say what it’s investigating, but he said it likely concerns monetary contributions that deputies must pay for each hour they work off-duty shifts for a warfare training company.
Jones has said the money is used for fuel, maintenance and tires for marked vehicles that are used by deputies for their off-duty work for Gryphon Group Security Solutions.
A spokeswoman for the Attorney General’s office says the SBI investigation began at the request of the local district attorney.
