NORTH MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island family and their 8-year-old labradoodle are together again after the dog ran away on Valentine’s Day.
Cody was reunited with the North Massapequa family Thursday at the animal shelter in Syosset.
Owner Kerry Donovan says the 13 days the family was without their beloved labradoodle was “horrible, like losing a child.”
Donovan’s 14-year-old son Michael told Newsday (https://bit.ly/1gGJJGM ) that Cody wiggled out of his harness when something spooked him while he and his mother were picking him up from the groomer.
Cody bolted down the street toward the Massapequa Preserve.
Friends, neighbors, strangers and animal shelter staff helped search for him. Cody was finally caught by one of two traps set up by the shelter near the preserve.
Cody lost about 15 pounds but otherwise appeared healthy.
