Rep. Steve King, Iowa Republican, said the GOP is floundering with constituents because they refuse to stand strong — not because they refuse to compromise more.

“This country wouldn’t be in this angst that it’s in today if we had been better obstructionists when they tried to jam Obamacare at us,” he said of congressional Democrats on CNN’s “New Day” on Friday.

He said that “stopping bad ideas” is his primary congressional role, so long as Democrats hold the leading positions in the Senate and White House.

“Republicans need to be the conscience of the spending Democrats,” he said.
