JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - A Barrow Democrat says when people fall in love they should be able to do something about it.

Rep. Benjamin Nageak says there are so many other issues that Alaska needs to be worried about, like road access, energy needs and education. He says when people fall in love they should be able to do whatever they want.

He and other members of the House majority were asked about their views on same-sex marriage during a news conference Thursday.

Republican Rep. Lindsey Holmes said it’s not government’s choice who one falls in love with and marries.

Republican Rep. Craig Johnson said he personally believes marriage should be between a man and a woman. But he also said he’s not sure it’s government’s role to make that decision.
