RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - University of Richmond President Edward L. Ayers is stepping down in June 2015.
In a letter to the campus released Friday, Ayers said the conclusion of the university’s strategic plan next year is a “natural conclusion” to his term as president.
Ayers is a nationally recognized Civil War scholar who took over the presidency at Richmond eight years ago. He said he will continue his scholarly work as a member of the faculty.
Ayers’ strategic plan is called “The Richmond Promise.” He says the document promotes access and affordability, diversity and inclusion.
The university said it will launch a national search for his successor in the coming academic year.
