PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island State Police say one of four people injured in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 95 in Pawtucket has died.

Troopers say a car driving northbound in the southbound lanes crashed head-on into a sport utility vehicle near exit 26 at about 3 a.m. Friday. Authorities say a woman in the backseat of the SUV has died at Rhode Island Hospital.

Officials say a woman in her 20s who was driving the car the wrong way suffered life-threatening injuries, and two other people in the SUV also were hurt.

The victims’ names haven’t been released.

The wreck forced the closure of all southbound lanes for nearly two hours.

State police are investigating the cause of the crash, including why the car was on the wrong side of the highway.
