LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A federal judge has cleared the way for former Arkansas treasurer Martha Shoffner to be tried next week on corruption charges.

U.S. District Judge J. Leon Holmes on Thursday turned down a request by Shoffner to throw out her 14 counts of extortion and bribery. She allegedly accepted $36,000 from a bond dealer to whom she steered state business.

Jury selection is scheduled to start Monday morning at U.S. District Court in Little Rock.

Prosecutors added another 10 wire fraud counts that accuse Shoffner of misspending $9,800 from her campaign account. Shoffner on Thursday pleaded not guilty to that batch of charges. She’ll have a separate trial to address those counts.
