HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Hartford police say they recently have started seeing a deadly form of heroin in the capital city and surrounding towns.
Deputy Chief Brian Foley told WFSB-TV (https://bit.ly/1hw82rr ) that heroin laced with the prescription painkiller fentanyl has been turning up in drug investigations. Fentanyl is blamed for dozens of recent overdose deaths across the country, including some people who injected a heroin-fentanyl mix.
Foley also says there has been an increase in overdoses in Hartford and nearby towns including East Hartford and East Windsor. He says officers have found overdose victims with needles still in their arms.
Local police say they’ve launched aggressive efforts to warn people about the potent form of heroin and prevent more overdose deaths.
