MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - Police on Long Island say they are looking for a “neutral-colored” SUV as part of their investigation into the shooting of a well-connected businessman.
A Suffolk County police spokeswoman says no suspects have been identified in Monday’s shooting.
They say 69-year-old Gary Melius (MEEL’-ee-uhs) was wounded by a gunshot to his head as he sat in his car outside the Oheka (oh-HEE’-kah) Castle catering facility in Huntington. Police say the bullet did not penetrate his skull.
They say he went into shock and could not recall details about the attack.
Detectives are looking into Melius’s personal and professional dealings as part of their investigation.
On Tuesday, police set up a checkpoint near the shooting scene.
Melius is celebrated as a philanthropist and also has donated hundreds of thousands to politicians.
