ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Former New Mexico Public Safety Secretary Gorden Eden has been sworn in as the new police chief of the troubled Albuquerque Police Department.
Eden took the oath of office Wednesday and promised to meet with around 60 employees soon to talk about possible improvements.
Former Chief Ray Schultz retired last year amid controversy and a U.S. Justice Department investigation into allegations of excessive force and three dozen police shootings since 2010.
Eden said he planned to make a number of reforms during his first 100 days in office, including likely changes to internal affair and leader roles.
Outgoing interim chief Allen Banks said goodbye to staff Wednesday. He’s taking the chief of police job in Round Rock, Texas.
