HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) - An Oregon jury has convicted a 54-year-old man of murder in the January 2012 fatal shooting of his daughter’s ex-boyfriend in a grocery store parking lot.

Washington County jurors in the Portland suburb of Hillsboro returned their verdict Wednesday against Jeffrey Johnson.

Killed was 22-year-old Ryan Johnson, the father of Jeffrey Johnson’s young grandson. The two men are not related. The shooting was caught on a security camera.

The Oregonian reports that Ryan Johnson and Jeffrey Johnson’s daughter had been involved in a months-long custody dispute over their then 3-year-old son. Jeffrey Johnson had been appointed supervisor of Ryan Johnson’s court-ordered parenting time.

Defense lawyer Stephen Houze told jurors that Jeffrey Johnson was experiencing extreme emotional disturbance and should be found guilty of first-degree manslaughter.

Sentencing was set for March 20.
