LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - A 43-year-old deputy with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office has been fired after his arrest on a charge of criminal damage to property over $3,000.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kim Myers says Scott Helms, of Lake Charles, surrendered to authorities Tuesday. He was later released from the Calcasieu Correctional Center after posting a $2,500 bond.

In a news release, Myers said Helms was fired after an internal investigation.

She says Helms had worked for the sheriff’s office for about 11 years.
